Six scholarships with a combined total value of $27,000 are available for the Skyview senior class of 2024

  • Each scholarship represents a one-time, financial scholarship, paid to a college, university, or professional/technical trade school of the student’s choice.

  • Recipients will have up to twelve months to request their funds from the scholarship committee (this can be extended upon written request).

  • Specific details for each scholarship are noted in the application.

  • A student may apply for more than one scholarship but can only be the recipient of one. If applying in more than one category, applicants should write a separate essay for each category entered.

  • Deadline for applications is May 1, 2024.

  • All applications must be submitted online through the links below.

    IMPORTANT: Application guidelines:

    Your submission should be typed, double-spaced, in 12 pt Helvetica Regular font. (You may occasionally use Helvetica Oblique, Helvetica Bold or Helvetica Bold Oblique for emphasis or distinction). There is no word/page minimum or maximum. Use the space necessary to provide a clear and concise narrative for your situation.

The Jennifer Frost Taylor

Outstanding Student in the Arts

Value: $5,000

Jennifer Frost Taylor was a Vancouver resident and long time proponent of the Arts. Jennie was one of the original supporters of the scholarship program. In recognition of her commitment to the program, this award is named in her honor.

The Storm Nation Foundation will award a $5,000 scholarship grant to a member of the 2024 senior class who has participated and excelled in classes or clubs or other activities related to “the arts” while attending Skyview High School. Qualifying activities include choir, orchestra, band and dance programs (comprised of the Marching Band, Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, Jazz Band and three Concert Bands – Concert, Symphonic, and Wind Ensemble), drama club, the Visual Arts Department, Photography, and Video Skills.


Outstanding Student in the area of Leadership

Value: $5,000

The Storm Nation Foundation will award a $5,000 scholarship grant to a member of the 2024 senior class who has shown outstanding leadership ability in school clubs, activities and/or athletics.

This student will have demonstrated leadership while modeling characteristics consistent with the Storm culture. These characteristics include: Integrity - Communication - Self-awareness - Gratitude - Empathy - Respect.


The Payton May Family

Outstanding Student in Overall Achievement

Value: $5,000

This award is established by the family of Payton May, a 2020 graduate who transferred to Skyview in 2017 as a sophomore and went on to achieve success in personal, scholastic and community endeavors.  To show their gratitude to the Storm community for its role in helping Payton make a successful transition to Skyview, the May family collaborated with The Storm Nation Foundation to create this award.

This year, a scholarship grant of $5,000 will be awarded to a graduating member of the 2024 senior class who participated at a high level in numerous activities at the school while continually demonstrating a willingness to serve others.


Outstanding Student in the area of Academic Excellence

Value: $5,000

The Storm Nation Foundation will award a one-time, $5,000 scholarship to a member of the 2024 senior class who has shown outstanding achievement in the area of academic excellence. Applicants will have achieved their academic success while modeling characteristics consistent with the Storm culture. These characteristics include: Integrity - Communication - Self-awareness - Gratitude - Empathy - Respect

For this award, consideration will be given to the GPA of each applicant, factoring in total credits earned as well as the difficulty of courses taken (such as AP classes). Applicants should also include their participation in school clubs and/or sports which may be used to help determine a winner. 


Outstanding Student involved in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math classes

Value: $5,000

The Storm Nation Foundation will award a one-time, $5,000 scholarship to a member of the 2024 senior class who has participated in Skyview STEM classes and extracurricular opportunities while demonstrating achievement, leadership, and a willingness to serve. In their essay, applicants are expected to illustrate how their STEM experiences at Skyview positively influenced their future plans and aspirations.


Alice & Brandon Svoboda Family

Outstanding Student in Career and Technical Education

Value $2,000

This year, the Storm Nation Foundation will award a financial grant of $2,000 to a member of the 2024 senior class who is choosing a career or education path after graduatiing from Skyview High School.

This award is funded by the Alice & Brandon Svoboda family who recognize that career and technical programs provide an important road to success for high school students and offers each student opportunities to personalize his or her education based on their career interests and unique learning needs.

For this award, applicants will need to answer a series of questions which the scholarship committee will use to determine the recipient. In addition to answering the questions, applicants will need to provide a copy of their transcipts and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or staff member (these must be submitted as PDF documents). 

Selection process for awarding scholarships:

The Storm Nation Foundation will review all applications to determine each scholarship recipient. If necessary, they may choose to interview the top candidates to select the winner. Along with the financial scholarship, the winner will receive a personal plaque.

Scholarship refers to a one-time financial award that helps pay for individuals to attend an educational institution – a school that has a faculty, a student body, a physical location, and a curriculum. This can be a public or private college or university or a vocational school.
